Dying to yourself

Dying to one`s self is something we don’t talk about often, but it is essential in the body of Christ and something we should be living in, especially now.

If you really understand the world and what Jesus has done then you know we don’t have any real problems, yes, we have trials and some difficulties but no insurmountable problems for those of us in Christ. Even satan isn’t a real problem for us; our only real challenge is the flesh.

Luke 9:23 says: And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

Christ tells us When we decide to follow Him, we must die to ourselves, and this is a choice we have to make every single day.

The flesh keeps us distracted from the truth of Christ’s victory in our lives, and it keeps us distracted from his promises and his everlasting presence, it makes us impatient, fearful, selfish, entitled, lonely, bitter, jealous, angry.  Then it tells us that we are justified in feeling that way. The flesh compels us to speak and do things that give satan inroads into our lives, and it makes us question the integrity of God in moments of discomfort. It makes our lives all about us.

But if you can remove the flesh from the equation, you can truly live a life of freedom, freedom from fear, anxiety, anger, guilt. The wisdom of God and his direction and purpose for your life will become clear. This is what Christ meant when he Sayed ” For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

So how does this relate to our health? Well, it is widely know n that negative emotions like anxiety and depression have ill effects on your health; some include higher risk of heart attack, fatigue, insomnia (which can lead to other problems), and weakened immune system. For more information, read this Healthline article on “The Effects of Depression in Your Body.”

Getting to a point of trust in God where we can surrender and forsake all these negative emotions will give us a life full of freedom and health.
